Off Season, New Faces
I could write a post just breaking down these trades and what they mean to the Reds, but if you are someone who has the ability to read my blog you are also able to head over to mlb.com and do the same thing.
What I will do is give my opinion and hope to spark some interesting conversation about what these trades do for or against the 2012 season.
Let’s start positive.
If you ever listened to legendary HOF sportscaster Marty B or anyone one else on the telecast you are well aware of the Reds desperate need for good, reliable pitching. Each year we look, retool and attempt again at building a rotation that “should” hold up. Sadly this method has failed more often than not. The good is that Walt has seen this, and has taken the weakness in the NL Central to heart and put some money on the line to make this rotation the best it’s been in some time.
This mixture of young and seasoned arms will put some assurance that the pitching staff is coming to win. Which only brings us to making sure our offense (which historically is good) stays on track for another good season.
Now down the dark path
We sold out folks, we broke the financial bank and our farm system for this year. We traded a lot for our new rotation. I know it takes something to get something, but yes I am one who would say we paid a higher price than I think we should of for Latos, and I’m not sure where our heads were on the Cubs deal. It all makes me want to say those famous lines in so many movies We’re in deep now boys, no turning back..

Ahh The Off Season
I know.. I know, but really what do you expect? What can I say, I serve a lot of masters and once the offseason starts I seem to find more time.
So what do we have to talk about? Ok it might be simpler to say what are we not talking about?
We’ve got a 2012 season that may not be a lock for us to win the division, but the odds definitely got better.
We have us being nice to the Cubs and the Padres trading our farm system to them. (ok it just felt like it)
We’ve got bad news for Pete, with two more years of Bud (and I’m not talking about the beer or the narcotic)
Those should be good enough starts to get my 2012 writing bug some focus.

COBF: And This One Belongs To The Reds..Last Home Game 2011
I usually make sure that I make it to the last home game of the season. Today was the first time in a few years that I didn’t make it. Those are the breaks when it comes to the working class guy that I am.
All the same I thought it best I should at least listen to the game online, and post a quick report of how happy I was to see this game go all the way with Arroyo.
My hopes of a .500 season are close, if I my math is correct we need 4 wins with 6 games left to play. It secretly the goal all along.
Only a week left in the season, and then the post season starts. I’m not sure what to make of that.

COBF: It’s About That Time..Post Season Bandwagon
Well I was hoping to be cheering for the Reds this post season, but alas that was not in the cards. The last few weeks of September is the time I like looking at the field of post season possibles and start figuring out who I’m rooting for. It’s better to do it now than during so you don’t get biased by their play.

We have finally made it to a game, where I can blog from my seat, and ATT FIXED THERE RECEPTION at the ball field!

I was at last nights game, we could have used some help there. Spent more time shopping and eating than watching.

Visited the the Bench exhibit, I have to say I wish I went earlier!
It was also my first year as a Reds HOF member and it was cool to see our name on the hall of fame wall.
Inning
1-3: watching a lot of third strikes, awesome center field hit by Phillips. Although 3 runs are on the board Leake is putting on a great pitching show.
4-6: well we only gave up one run.. We are missing a lot of heart.
7-9: 3 run homers are good! Let’s see if they rally!
Final: no luck
Overall a good trip to Cincy, now really below .500
Alot of things to make better. Today really felt like going through the motions.

COBF: Stop The Game There is Shade!!
During Saturday night’s game there was span of about 30 minutes where a couple of banks of lights failed. During this time the game was suspended and we waited for the technical gurus to fix them.
My question is simple. Why?
Did we not play baseball at sunset for decades for lighted fields? Unless the camera guys did some trick photography there was no sign of difficulty seeing the ball.
In today’s day of baseball we have spent a large amount of time trying to speed the game up. This delay was a waste of that time. Especially since we are dealing with players who play in rain, sleet, and in some fields there has even been known for snow.
